Our Mission:
We serve a dual purpose at The Lighthouse Cafe...
Purpose #1
We serve as a safe house for teens and young college-aged adults, who have nothing better to do like starting fights or stealing from stores at the local malls on Friday Nights or going bowling at the local alley and meeting opposite sex partners who are much older on Friday nights. We offer only Christian music and are ran by a staff of solid Christians. Sounds pretty boring for the kids, huh? Not really...We have all kinds of fun ranging from Open Mic Nights to Hip Hop Nights, from Soft Acoustic Worship Bands to Hard Rocking Screaming Christian Bands...Whatever it is that the kids like, we find it and bring it in for them, but we keep it pure with only Christian bands with Christian lyrics...Then we ask the bands if they feel led, to do an alter call. At the very least, we ask the bands and artists to share their personal testimonies with the crowd so that those present might be willing to give their life to Christ that night, right there and then. So far, 15 have been "saved" and we are praying for more...lots more...
Purpose #2
The bands and artists that play here at The Lighthouse Cafe are so good and their music sounds so close to mainstream radio that those who do not know the difference can fall in love with it. When they dig a little deeper and research what they are listening to, they get a little something extra something they didn't expect. The word of God in this music. This softens the heart and will lead them curiously to Christ. We offer a cool atmosphere where Youth group kids can invite their friends and they are not all weirded out with the "Church" stuff, most of the time anyway...lol...
Our History:
Reverend Robert Mundell, Jon La Joy, and a couple others opened The Lighthouse Cafe in August of 2007. We have grown so much in such a short time. God is really driving this ministry. We used to run the cafe on Saturday nights but we now run it on Friday nights. We take the fifth FridaOtherwise, we are booked throughout the year. We don't take summers off! It has been amazing seeing what God has done and I can't wait to see where he takes us in the future. It wasn't always so easy at first. In the beginning it was hard to get bands to even come in. And now that we are booking months in advance, has our spirits changed? Absolutely not, we are so humbled that God is blessing this ministry and are eager to see where the Lord will take us!
Need a Ride?
Call us, we might be able to come get you.
Ministry Opportunities:
In this growing music/food based ministry, we are still in need of help! We have been helped in so much needed areas but there are some voids that still need to be filled. If anything below is an area you'd be interested in helping out in, please contact me and let me know.
Sound Techs: Anyone who has ran sound before or who is trained to do so would suffice. I'm sure Mark Darrow and Stanley Franks would appreciate any help we can give them.
Video Techs: Anyone who has experience operating EZ Worship or knows how to put audio and video together onto DVD, please see me!
Janitor/Cleaners: Some people don't realize that my wife and I do most of what needs to be done after a coffeehouse is over. After the band leaves we end up staying after and vacuuming and putting the worship team's gear back together for Sunday morning service. Anyone willing to stay after and clean up with or for us would be awesome and get us out earlier.
Promoters: We are still in need of people to help put us on the map. You can have the best coffeehouse in the world and still not have anyone know your there. Please help us advertise The Lighthouse! On the internet, we network on Facebook, Myspace, and Reverbnation. This takes considerable time to do. But a few of us could knock this out in no time. There are others who could distribute fliers, news letters, invitations, etc. We have a job for everyone!
Security: We are in need of someone who can just walk the parking lot at night occasionally. We would just like someone to walk through the church lot to make sure everything is okay. I am not asking anyone to get confrontational, just to be a presence. Those who volunteer as our security get a free tee-shirt that oddly enough says, S E C U R I T Y.
Recording Specialist: We would eventually like to get back into recording the bands live every coffeehouse! We would be interested in anyone who knows how to do this. We currently possess the equipment to record onto a pc with Adobe Audition 3.0. I just don't know how to use it. If this is up your alley, please let me know.
Donors: If you don't have the time to volunteer for us because I know life can get pretty nuts. I have 3 kids, I work full time, I go to Seminary School, and I run this ministry just about full time. So I know life can get hectic! If you don't have the time and you'd like to help us financially, that would be fantastic! We currently do not operate on a budget and could use some financial support to help out with things. Think about it, pray about and get back to me.
Prayer Warriors/Supporters: At the very least, we'd love your support by coming out to the coffeehouse and checking things out. If you can't make it, at least keep us in your prayers. Your prayers have already helped us tremendously. God is great! Please continue to pray for us as we move forward.
